LONDON-based duo “Flutes and Frets” will play a fascinating concert, “Dancing Through Time”, at Crediton Parish Church, showing how music and dance, two expressive art forms,  have been intimately linked since the beginning of time.

This concert, from 7.30pm on Thursday, September 12, is being presented by the Saint Boniface Concert Society, and is the last in its 2024 season: definitely not one to be missed!

The Flutes and Frets duo comprises Beth Stone, who will play both modern and historical flutes, and Daniel Murphy, who will play a range of guitars and lutes, in addition to the seldom-seen theorbo.

The two are known for their on-stage chemistry and interaction, and their intimate, magnetic performances.

They have won prizes and plaudits in competitions, recitals and festivals across Britain and Europe, and are regulars on Radio 3.

Beth and Daniel will present a programme that showcases how music and instruments have transformed over time.

They will start with beguiling music for 15th and 16th dances - the tourdion, pavane and galliard -  and play their way through to lively tango and jazz dance music of the 20th century.

The concert will feature a variety of instruments to express the colours and atmosphere of different periods: Flutes and Frets perform on the instruments that were in use at the time of composition, recreating the sounds as they would have been heard by the composers.

All are welcome to attend for an evening of fascinating music.

There is disabled access and parking available, and drinks will be on offer during the interval.

Tickets are available from A E Lee Outfitters, High Street, Crediton, on-line from: www.ticketsource.co.uk , or on the door, subject to availability. Tickets are £15 full price, Free to full time students under 30.

The Saint Boniface Concert Society, a local charity dedicated to bringing top-flight musicians to play in Crediton, gratefully acknowledges support from “Making Music” and from Crediton Town Council.
