A CREDITON bookshop has donated as much as £120 to Pippins Pre-School and Nursery.
It comes as the latest gift Jim of Once Read has given to local children over the last 14 years.
So far, he thinks he has supported every nursery and school in Crediton with a percentage of his profits – and more in the villages surrounding the town.
“I'm only a middleman. I can't do [this] without the donations of the community,” Jim said.
“It's the community that allow me to do things like this but I get a great joy out of it. I really do.
“Today, with the economic system, business isn't what it used to be.
“I used to do quite a few of these a year but unfortunately it's reduced considerably.
“It's not happening as much as I'd like it to but we're hoping for a better future.”
Jo Douglas, who works for Pippins and is the assistant manager of its Kidz Star Club based at Landscore Primary School, described Jim as “brilliant”.
She said: “This is the third time we've come up here with the kids.
“It's very kind of Jim. We're a charity so we rely on donations so we're very much appreciative of Jim's generosity.”
Pippins is a pre-school and nursery for 0- to 5-year-olds based at Market Square House on Market Street in Crediton.
Once Read is an independent secondhand bookshop on Crediton High Street. It also sells many other household and vintage items under the name Once Loved.
