CREATE a beautiful butterfly, have a go at stilt walking, then join a session of African drumming before watching an hilarious show about recycling.

All this, and more, will be on offer at the fabulous “Arts in the Park”, a day of creative fun and entertainment for all ages in Newcombes Meadow on Saturday, August 17.

The event is the culmination of an eight day Summer Arts Festival, organised by the Crediton Heart Project and Arts Centre, a celebration of creativity involving workshops, film, music and theatre performances across three venues.

“Arts in the Park is an exciting new venture bringing together local entertainers and artists to share their skills, sell their work and encourage people to try something new,” explained Project Manager Patsy Lang.

Performers from Higher Beings Circus will be encouraging people to try out a whole host of skills from plate spinning to tight rope walking, while musicians from Drum Devon will offer a “rhythmic adventure for the whole family” which promises “fun, laughter, and plenty of beats to groove to”.

Meanwhile there will be two craft workshops to choose from. At Beast and Butterfly Sculpting you can make fantastical little creatures using card, tissue, paint and sparkle and at Cyanotype Printing you will use the sun’s rays to create rich blue prints of nature.

As well as this packed programme of free workshops the event will feature a varied range of craft stalls, where local artists and makers will display and sell their work.

A highlight of the day will be three performances by The Last Baguette theatre company of “Bin Rat” – a zany show aimed at primary age children and their families.

There will be three walkabout performances of the show 'Bin Rat’.

With the help of a puppet rat, the “walkabout” show explores the subject of refuse and recycling in a fun, accessible way, encouraging young children to think about what they throw away.

And finally, to keep up your energy between activities, there will be a choice of stalls selling delicious food and drinks.

Thanks to generous grants from Mid Devon District Council, Devon County Council and the National Lottery, all the workshops and entertainment are free.

Spaces at the craft workshops are limited, so please book these in advance via this website: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/the-crediton-heart-project .
