THE A3072 between Crediton and Cheriton Fitzpaine is currently closed due to a road accident involving a van on its side on Shobrooke Hill.

The road is closed in both directions and emergency services are at the scene.

An ambulance, fire engine from Crediton Fire Station and police are in attendance.

The incident occurred just after 10.15am and the road is likely to be closed for several hours.

Traffic is advised to take the Shobrooke turn off as a diversion but this is unsuitable for large vehicles.

In an update, Crediton firefighters said: “On arrival the crew made the scene and vehicle safe whilst also undertaking casualty care for the one occupant who was out of the vehicle on arrival of the crew.

“The occupant was then conveyed to hospital by land ambulance and the scene was left in the hands of police for recovery of the vehicle.

“A road closure will be in place for this incident to allow for safe recovery and the repairs to the telephone pole and cable.”

The condition of the driver of the van is not known.
