MORE than eight fire crews fought a large barn fire at East Village near Crediton throughout the night of Saturday, August 13 and early hours of Sunday, August 14.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue was alerted to the barn fire late in the evening on August 13.
A spokesman for Danes Castle Fire Station, Exeter, which attended the fire, said that a lot of resources had been used over a long period of time to contain the fire.
He confirmed that a 10,000 litre dam was used to maintain the water supply.
He added that it was “a significant loss for the farmer”.
A spokesman for Cullompton Fire Station said that it was a busy weekend for the station.
He said: “On Friday we were asked to help out in Plymouth due to the amount of incidents in South Devon and ended up dealing with a fire within a garden in the city.
“On Saturday morning we extinguished another fire within a rear garden, but this time in Cullompton and in the evening assisted with a barn fire in the Crediton area.
“On Sunday we assisted with a smell of gas in Fore Street, Cullompton. Big thanks to the White Hart who kept the crew refreshed and hydrated with some complimentary drinks, on a day as hot as it was it was really appreciated.”
One person who saw the East Village barn fire said that he believed a workshop was also involved in the fire.
He said that he did not know how it started, but added that “firefighters were still damping down at midday (Sunday).”
