POLICE stopped a car driving the wrong way down the M5 near Exeter on Sunday, January 12.

Multiple people dialled 999 at around 7.50pm reporting a yellow vehicle going in the wrong direction on the northbound carriageway between junctions 28 and 30.

Police officers were mobilised and managed to stop the car at junction 29.

A 36-year-old woman from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs and on suspicion of dangerous driving. She has been released on bail until March 13.

“We understand how shocking this incident will have been to witness and would like to thank the multiple members of public who contacted 999 to alert us,” Patrol Constable William Welch said.
