FOLLOWING a successful community meeting held in the Church Rooms at Sampford Courtenay, there was unanimous agreement to go ahead with the proposal to mark the 475th Anniversary of the Prayer Book Rebellion in 2024.

The Prayer Book Rebellion started in the village in June 1549.

It involved a number of battles between the Rebels and the Kings Army as well as the siege of Exeter.

It ended with a final battle on the hillside above Sampford Courtenay in August of the same year where many people from both sides lost their lives.

The proposal has already attracted a great deal of interest from Community Groups, Historians and Re-enactment Groups.

The meeting in the Church Rooms added to the list for what could be a really exciting range of community events to mark the anniversary as well as providing a lasting legacy for the Parish and future generations. Sampford Courtenay

The meeting was very keen to ensure that any activities were accessible to all and involved the local community as well as ensuring the engagement of young people.

So it is Rebel-On in Sampford Courtenay.
