CREDITON Rugby Club Girls headed over the border to Cornwall to take on the Launceston Panthers on Sunday, October 21.
UNDER 13’S
The Under 13s found this to be the hardest game of the season so far. The first 10 minutes found Crediton on the back foot and having to defend, under pressure and a few slipped tackles allowed the very strong runners from Launceston to break through the defence and carry over a number of tries.
Crediton substitutes were watching from the wings identifying where they were struggling, and with a chat to their team mates during the break, they headed back out.
Crediton identified the strength of the opposition in the centre of the pitch so changed their attack strategy to passing the ball out wide to run in a number of tries to bring the scores more level.
The Under 13s were dogged and determined throughout the rest of the game, working hard in the rucks and support play – this continuity allowed Crediton to rack up a few more tries to give them the win by one try.
Play of the day was the great attitude of the whole team, when under pressure and losing they didn’t concede and give up, but fought back in order to change the game into a win.
Results: Launceston 65 - Crediton 70.
Try scorers: Tilly Pulfer, Charlotte Wreford, Libby Lovell, Charley Baker, Abi Adams and Scarlett Wonnacott.
UNDER 15’S
The Under 15s travelled with a depleted squad, so were joined by some Bude players to take on Launceston Panthers.
Not knowing a third of your team made the game a bit harder for Crediton, especially against a well-drilled and strong Launceston team who defeated Crediton in a 32 v 10 battle.
Try scorers: Holly Burrow and Millie Twigg.
UNDER 18’S
From the start Crediton Under 18s dominated the tackle and ruck and always looked the more dangerous team.
Reacting quicker, supporting closely and with better body angles we were able to control possession of the ball.
As well as the outlet of speed that is Libby Baker we were also able to move the ball down the pitch through strong close driving runs, close support and clean rucks.
Later in the game our passing accuracy improved and we were able to attack with width as well.
Special mention must go to the front row of Holly Pickett, Lydia Sandys and Emily Yendell.
All three were very effective in attack - carrying the ball hard, they got to rucks before the opposition and they linked well with team mates.
As a team we should be happy with the progression we have made so far this season and we should all be excited about how much we can improve both individually and as a team.
Try scorers: Libby Baker, Evie Chadney, Holly Pickett and Millie Turner.
Conversion: Grace Eckford.
