NORTH Tawton came into this game looking for a response from last week’s poor performance and for the first 10 minutes looked likely of getting the better over the League leaders Truro.
A series of crash balls, runs and breakthroughs saw Tawton awarded a penalty for their efforts. However the windy conditions were not to be Tawton’s friend with Gary Sizmur kicking wide.
For all of North Tawton’s efforts, it was to be in vain.
A few silly offside penalties lead to Truro’s first score of the match and conversion, 7-0.
Tawton looked to respond quickly but were again penalised by the referee and sent marching back. Absorbing Truro’s pressure but eventually they scored, 14-0.
North Tawton looked to get a better defensive shape to cope with the athletic visitors, however Truro were very good at switching play, constantly getting the extra yard to make it count. A penalty to the visitors ended the first half 17-0.
From the second half whistle Tawton were constantly on the back foot. Putting themselves under pressure with misjudged calls and poor kick chases, trying to take advantage of the wind but again were beaten back by a well-drilled Truro side.
Two yellow cards for Dan Dennis and Matt Baker added to the home side’s woes.
The final score ending 0-52. In many ways North Tawton played better than they did the week previous, but they were up against a very professional team who are almost certain to be promoted at the end of the season.
Man of the match was Luke Dennis.
Many of the North Tawton players were disappointed with the performance but showed character and just shows how far this team has come in the last two years.
The Tawts remain in mid-table and next travel to nearby Bude who are one point above them. Always a tough place to go.
