Crediton 10 - Newton Abbot 33
AFTER the euphoria of the performance and result at Devonport last week, the players were looking forward to taking on Newton Abbot, one of the strongest colts sides in the county.
The weather during the week prevented any training taking place. With a full squad available, hopes were high of a positive performance and result.
The half-game rule is such an integral and important part of the game, a regulation whereby every squad member on the day has to have a minimum half a game.
Whilst it ensures that game time is fairly distributed amongst all the players, it can from time to time disrupt the continuity and flow.
This was one of those days and it is by no means a reflection of the players that came on in the second half as they are all good players but making eight changes does have its disadvantages.
For the first half, we had competed well and found ourselves 3-7 down, George Baxter with a penalty landing our points.
In the second half, Newton upped their game and started making ground through contact with a powerful display and gradually built a commanding lead.
They fully deserved their win but maybe the scoreline flattered them a bit. Josh Burnison bagged our try with a conversion from Baxter.
Things don’t get easier for the Colts as they face a trip to Ivybridge on Saturday.
