Plymstock Albion Oaks Women 0 - Crediton Women 50
CREDITON RFC Ladies took the short trip down the A30 to Plymstock Albion Oaks on Sunday, October 1, for the first round of the Papa John’s Cup.
This was the first time that Crediton Ladies had entered The Papa John’s cup which has the prestige of some silverwear and the final being played at Twickenham in May.
With the sea mist closing in on Albion’s pitch, Crediton decided to play up the slope in the first half, hitting the ground running with some impressive line speed and strong set pieces.
This placed the Oaks under huge pressure ensuring they had the lion’s share of the possession and territory in the first half, meant that Crediton could reap the rewards of their hard work with Holly Keast, Alice Scully, Sophie Phillips and Rachel Mortimer all crossing the whitewash to score.
Rachel adding conversions to three of the four tries left the score at half-time Oaks 0 - Crediton 26.
After the break, Crediton were not in the mood to let up and instantly resumed where they left off, playing some beautiful rugby and fearless tackling to secure the win with tries from Holly Burrow, Sarah Kingdon, Alice Scully and Rachel Mortimer claiming her second of the match.
Rachel also managed two out of the four conversions to leave the final score Albion Oaks 0 - Crediton 50.
Forward of the match was given to Sophie Phillips and back of the match was given to Rachel Mortimer.
This was a very comprehensive result and a deserved win through inclement weather conditions resulting in Crediton Ladies progressing to the next round of the cup.
It rewards them with an away match against last year’s title race rivals Yeovil Barbarians on October 29.
This has the potential to be an epic encounter and all support would be welcome.
