Sidmouth Colts 34 - Crediton Colts 21
FOR the third successive week, Crediton Rugby Club Colts came up against strong opposition, Sidmouth are current Devon Colts Cup Champions having defeated Ivybridge in last season’s final.
It was though a perfect day for Rugby at Sidford and it was hoped that the recent upturn in form for the Colts would continue.
With 20 players available and the previous week’s disappointment fresh in the minds, Crediton started with great energy and enthusiasm, we kept possession well and played rugby in the right areas showing much improved tactical awareness and strategy. Sidmouth defended strongly and prevented us from crossing their line.
A well contested period followed resulting in Sidmouth narrowing Crediton’s defence and showing great handling at pace to score in the corner.
This was the tale of the game with George Baxter, Archie Bridgeman and Tom Ayre all crossing the line through direct ball carrying whilst Sidmouth scoring four tries through the wide channels.
Both sides placed kicked well with Baxter converting all three tries for Crediton and Sidmouth adding four conversions and three penalties.
With the improvement Crediton are showing week on week we are sure to turn these close results into wins soon!
A quick note to congratulate Saturday’s referee, he managed the game with great skill, communication and empathy, which resulted in a wonderful, well contested game played in the right spirit for all to enjoy. Thanks Ref!
