A YOUNG Crediton Rugby player recently took part in a fundraising challenge to raise money towards his rugby team’s 2028/2029 season Under 16’s team tour.
Brennan McRae, aged just 11, has played for Crediton Rugby Club for the past three years and says he loves rugby.
He recently moved in the Under 12s team and is also a massive Harlequins, and England fan.
He explained: “When I'm not chucking an egg shaped ball around, I also do a bit of swimming.”
He attempted his non stop 5k distance swim, his furthest distance yet, and was sponsored by friends, family, businesses and fellow rugby supporters.
Brennan said he wanted to raise enough money to take some pressure off of the families of players who cannot afford to contribute much.
Liz Goodman, Chair, Crediton Rugby Club, said: “Brennan did the swim and raised £615.
“ He achieved an amazing 5k, that’s 200 lengths of Lords Meadow Leisure Centre pool, and he was not allowed to stop, only able to tread water to have a quick drink.
“I asked Brennan at what point did he find it the most challenging, and that was at the 3k mark.
“Brennan had hoped to raise £200 and what’s staggering is that he was doing it so the whole U12 rugby team could benefit, not even knowing if he would still be playing rugby himself at the end of his Junior rugby when he’s 16.
“Well done Brennan.”
Brennan presented the cheque to Liz at Crediton Rugby Club.
