ALTHOUGH the weather is still feeling definitely not summer-like, the successes continue to come for Crediton bowlers as many of the county competitions have reached the quarter-final stages.
This means that the section has been won and it is now time to play off against the winning clubs from the other seven sections in the county.
Win this, and then the prize is a place at the national finals held in August at Leamington Spa.
Congratulations go to Gary Ayley and Rob Paxton in the men’s pairs; Michael Tapp, Steve Whitworth and Lloyd Reynolds in the men’s triples; Michael Tapp, Neil Thomas, Lloyd Reynolds and Chris Bond in the men’s fours; Liz Smerdon, Jackie Hemings, Mary Abbott and Joan Martin in the ladies senior fours.
The last two weeks have seen mixed fortunes for the men’s over 60s teams.
The A team followed up an 8-0 loss at the the hands of Exonia with an 8-0 victory over Marina and now lie fifth in their league.
The B team have gone up to fourth in their league after a 6-2 defeat of Madeira was followed up by an 8-0 victory over Feniton. This was achieved without a bowl being delivered as Feniton only turned up with five players.
The C team are up to second in their league. Although they lost 6-2 at Chagford this was then followed up with an 8-0 victory over Tiverton West End.
In the EDL Thursday league, it was A vs B with the A team triumphant in an 8-2 win.
They still lie first and second in division one so it will be a matter of who holds their nerve best before the end of the season.
The C team lost 8-2 to Madeira and are languishing in sixth place with relegation a real possibility. An important end to the season with victories needed to avoid this happening.
The friendly team have had a great run of success. Victories have been achieved by 86-71 over Barnstaple Ashleigh Road, 110-72 over Barnstaple United Services, 90-75 at Heavitree and 116-80 over Barnstaple Rock Park.
