DOWNES Crediton Golf Club Ladies Sue Bond and Shirley Stunell played the first round of the Devon County Veterans Ladies Golf Association (DCVLGA) Knock Out on Wednesday, May 1 against Great Torrington at Libbaton.

After a very hard fought match, with Sue and Shirley one down at the turn; the match was up and down until Sue holed out at the 17th to win the hole and moving to the 18th stood on tee all square.

Sue, the only one with a shot, sent her ball off the tee down the centre of the fairway.

Shirley's tee shot also went off down the centre.

Sue chipped her third (nett 2) shot to within four feet of the pin.

Shirley's second shot ended up in the bunker to the right of the green.  A good shot out of the bunker saw her approximately six feet past the hole.

After the two opponents had putted up to the hole for four each, Shirley holed her putt for four, stealing Sue's thunder, to win the hole and the match.

Well done to both ladies who now go through to the next round against either Thurlestone or Bovey Tracey at Dartmouth.

Downes Crediton Golf Club is set in a beautiful location with plenty of free parking and would love the local community to take advantage of its wonderful facilities – probably the best in the area!
