OKEHAMPTON Golf Club recently hosted the prestigious Devon County Ladies’ Senior Championships ladies with ladies aged 50+ from clubs all over the county taking part.

The sun shone throughout the day and the course did not disappoint and proved quite a challenge with fast greens and pin positions that were not for the faint hearted.

The Okehampton ladies had some great results with Marcia Collett third overall with a gross 83 just one shot behind the new Senior Champion and the winner of the Senior Handicap Trophy was Penny Deakin with a nett 69, in third place was Sue Stanbury with 71, with Jane Warren fourth with 72 and Sue Williams fifth, also with 72 nett.

Lady Captain Jane Warren presented the Margaret Down Trophy to Frances Harbron who had won the previous week’s medal round with 77 gross, Maggie Caws and Mary Keir won the Peacock Salvers in their respective divisions.

The club held its first Mixed Open of the year on Sunday, June 13.

In searing heat the overall winners were Lynn Hazelton and Alan Lawrence with Babs and Mick Beaney in second place. The best all Okehampton team were Michelle and Blackie Widdows.

The Senior men’s section also held their Club Championships last week and the winner with a nett 64 was John Flavin, Paul Ezard was second with nett 66 on the back nine from, in third Andrew Shapland, also with nett 66. The winner of the Warren Bowl for the best gross was Paul Ezard with a gross 75.

On Saturday, June 19 a three ball two to count Stableford competition was played and the winners of Division One were Kevin Cornwall, Mark Wonnacott and Arnie Searle with 86 points and in second were Ricky Wooldridge, James Hall and Lee Pengelly with 85 points.

Division Two was won by Paul Rogers, Andrew Rogers and Paul Fewings with 88 points and Brett Haines-lawson, Mark Bennett and Matt Chamberlain were second with 84 points.
