IT is so much better to be playing bowls in the sun rather than the rain and cold that has preceded this week.
The green dries out, the ladies and gents start to don their shorts, and everyone has a smile on their faces!
The season has started so well for many of the teams in Crediton Bowling Club.
On a Thursday evening there is the Exeter Triples League and this last week there was bound to be a Crediton winner as the A team took on the B team. The B team were quick out of the blocks and held a good lead after five ends but gradually the greater experience and skill of the A team came to the fore to outplay their opposition and win 66 shots to 47 and by two rinks to one.
The C team were also at home to Madeira but unfortunately lost on all three rinks.
The Men’s Over 60s teams compete on Wednesday afternoons and last week there were excellent wins for the A team who defeated Exonia 6-2 and the C team who travelled to Culm Vale returning with an 8-0 victory.
The B team made the long trip to Chardstock and were on the wrong end of a 8-0 thumping.
The friendlies continue to go well and there is a great opportunity for all members to have a competitive match whether they get selected for the league teams or not.
Two away fixtures have both resulted in good victories with the scores being 81-72 at Tiverton Borough and 107-99 at Byeways.
Things are hotting up over the next week or so as between May 26 and June 11 there are no fewer than nine friendlies on the fixture card.
This at a time when many are trying to fit in their County matches and the draws have been made for the Club competitions.
A busy summer is in store down at Newcombes Meadow.
Let’s hope the sun stays!
