NEWTON ABBOT SPURS 3

CREDITON hosted second placed Newton Abbot Spurs on Saturday, October 29 looking to banish the midweek defeat against Brixham. Jonny Bradford, Craig Skinner and Si Gregory all returned to the starting line up.

The game started with the visitors on the front foot and looked very dangerous every time the ball was rolled into the feet of Adam Dyson.

The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes inevitably through Dyson. A through ball appeared to see Dyson trip Lee Riggs but the referee waved play on and Dyson cooly rounded Tonkin to put Spurs one up.

Both sides then had half chances to change the scoreline, the hosts, through Kieran Stone’s header which cannoned back off the cross bar, and Spurs through a Dyson lob which went over the bar.

Spurs doubled their lead on 40 minutes, Dyson hoovering up the chance following a flick on from a corner to make the score 2-0 at the break.

The second half started with the visitors still in the ascendency, Tonkin made a great close range save from Dyson and Moseley almost slid in at the back post.

The game changed however on 55 minutes when Richard Groom replaced Perry Carpenter and moving up front with Simon Durrant dropping into midfield.

Groom immediately made an impact tucking home from close range on 58 minutes. If his first goal was close range his second strike was goal of the season.

A half clearance fell to Groom 25 yards out who smashed a volley over the advanced ‘keeper and into the far top corner to level the scores.

Craig Skinner then cleared a Chris Metters header off the line and the turn around was complete on 80 minutes.

An Adam Bilcock free kick was flicked on and Steve Goss was on-hand to tuck home to give the hosts a 3-2 lead.

However, Spurs were not to be denied a point and tied the scores at 3-3 on 86 minutes. A 30-yard free kick was headed home by Joe Andrews who had evaded the slack marking of Adam Bilcock in the home defence.

A fantastic game for the neutral with six goals, chances galore and a goal of the season contender.

Next up for Creddy is a cup game away at Ashburton, tomorrow, Saturday, November 5, with a 2pm kick off.
