SINCE my last report a lot of action has taken place, first of all was Lapford AFC’s Annual Dinner and Dance, when the presentation of trophies and medals took place.
There was also some news that the manager Nick Tucker would be retiring from that post, also that the secretary, Neil McAreavey would be moving to Somerset.
On behalf of myself, many thanks to both. It has been a pleasure to know and work with them.
My thanks to the football club for the trophy for “club man of the season” (the first ever).
On to the East Devon Senior Cup played last Saturday at Exminster (St Martin’s Ground) between Lapford and Upottery. Why?
Because Elmore Reserves and Alphington Reserves broke the rules.
Lapford won the silverware beating Upottery 3-1.
Goals for Lapford came on seven, 36 and 50 minutes. Upottery scored their goal on 67 minutes.
The moral of the above is play by the rules and tell the truth.
Next season Lapford will still be in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League because of not getting into the Devon League.
What happens if Lapford win the Premier Division at the third time of asking? I always thought from my football days you played football to win and move up the ladder, not by the Devon League.
There is still the Premier League Champions Cup to come later on this year, a reminder that Lapford are the holders of that cup as of last August 2021.
For me the teams to take part, besides Lapford, could be Buckfastleigh Rangers from the South Devon League, Park Utd, from the North Devon League and A C Auto Repairs from the Plymouth and West Devon League.
So, for me it is still onwards and upwards to take on all comers, football wise, by the number one team in Devon at Level 12.
Last of all Thorverton and Beer Albion are going into the Devon League to join Feniton, who have found it quite different.
Congratulations to the best village team in Devon and all their supporters, have a good summer break.
Good luck to all and come back fighting fit.
Gerald Leach.
