SOMEONE who had played for Crediton United AFC during the years Trevor Atkins was manager, 1985-1995, sponsored last Saturday’s memorial match at Crediton.
This was Steve Paddon who runs his own heating and plumbing business.
Trevor died last October and his widow, Nicky Atkins, and family and friends were at the club. Dave Blanchford, president, had also invited former players and spectators.
The match day programme was a special with photographs of many of Trevor’s team players.
While Steve sponsored the celebration day, the matchday ball was sponsored by Dave Blanchford and Ian Grinney for the game against Marjon.
That was Crediton’s first home game since the end of January and it is now top of the South West Peninsula League, Premier East.
Its Ladies Team has been doing well, playing in the Devon Women’s Football League North Devon Division and currently unbeaten.
On Saturday more than 150 people turned out to watch the match.
Crediton’s next game is Saturday, March 11 against Torrington AFC.
Dave Blanchford thanks everyone who supported or helped at Saturday’s match.
He added that there is to be another fundraising golf day this year at Downes Crediton Golf Club on Friday, May 12, open to all with teams of four. To know more, please contact Dave on 01363 775440.
