DOWNES Crediton Golf Club ladies hosted this year’s Devon County Veteran Ladies Golf Association Championships.
The weather and course conditions were perfect for the large field of competitors.
The overall winner was Kim Paley from Teign Valley GC with Downes Crediton’s Di Parsons runner-up.
The Knowle Shield will be shared this year with Downes Crediton Golf Club and Okehampton Golf Club.
The first round of the Senior Club Championship held on Monday, June 5 saw Martin Howe steal the show shooting a superb gross 71 nett 61 (nine under) to take the lead in Division One over Gary Price who shot a gross 79 nett 68 (two under) to follow in second place in the handicap Division One prize.
David Woodstock shot a gross 73 to finish second in the gross prize in the first round.
In Division Two it was Vaughan Gallavan who shot a gross 88 nett 66 (four under) to take the lead and was followed by Tony Blackburn who scored a nett 68 (two under) to finish second.
Roger Field scored a gross 94 to finish second in the gross.
Ying Wong shot a nett 70 to win the ladies EG Medal 3 on Tuesday, June 6 and was followed by Lyn Parry who shot a nett 73.
In the nine-hole competition Annet Coles scored 21 points to take the top spot.
Michael Hopton won the mid-week Stableford on Wednesday, June 7 with a score of 38 points.
Liam Whittleston shot 21 points to win the nine-hole Thursday Stableford on June 8.
The first round of the Men’s Club Championship was played on Saturday, June 10 and saw some tough conditions for the players, but leading the scratch prize into next week is Daniel Gott and Nick West, who both shot a gross 77.
Closely following them with 78 is the group of Robert Whittleston, Gary Price, Chris Toft, Sam Hills and Martin Garnsey.
In the Handicap Club Championship Liam Whittleston stole the show by shooting a nett 62 (eight under) to not only lead the first round, but win the Junior Club Championship.
Chris Bruce, Martin Storey and Neil Wilson all scored a nett 67 (three under) to finish second.
