THE closing date to enter this year’s Industrial Bowls Tournament is fast approaching. 

Teams must register by Monday, July 22 to take part in the Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface’s 49th annual tournament at Crediton Bowling Club. 

The competition will begin on Monday, August 5. The semi-finals and final will be held on Sunday, August 18.   

Started in 1973, a competition has been held most years since. It is described as “a marvellous community event which brings people together from all walks of life and raises money for charity.”  

Last year, there were 55 teams which each had four members. The winning team was RJ Tyres led by their captain Richard Jones, and the runners-up were the Nomads ‘A’ Team.   

The Rotary event saw as much as £1,250 raised for local charities.
