Crediton Quins 57 - Cullompton Seconds 7
CULLOMPTON RFC are experiencing some team raising problems with a number of injuries and in fact conceded the game on Friday, December 20 as they only had eight players.
The result was that the Quins are awarded the five points to stay at the top of the league and because Cully turned up and played the game as a friendly, they were not penalised with a five point deduction.
As it turned out, they arrived with 14 players including that "old stager" Ross Toms who has featured for both Clubs in the past.
With the advantage of the sloe in the first half, Cully started off at pace and some good handling but the Quins defence held firm.
Once in possession, the Quins attacked and put width on the ball to score a couple of quick tries. Cully responded and pulled a try back before the interval.
The second half was a different story as the Quins attacked constantly to score a further seven tries.
The visitors worked hard throughout and with a makeshift side made life difficult for the Quins at times.
Once again though, the pace of Sam Westcott proved difficult to contain and he bagged four tries, Ben Harris touched down twice with Charlie Gribble, Macca Jones and Chris Hooper each chipping in with one. Bobby Jenkin landed six conversions.
Whilst we are grateful to Cullompton for travelling, it was also a means to an end for them as they saved themselves from a five point deduction.
