PAT and Betty Moon were members of Crediton Bowling Club for many years and while playing there had many competition wins.
Pat was Club Captain for a year and after Betty’s death decided to sell his house, move to a flat in Topsham and play his bowls for Topsham Bowling Club. Due to house sales falling through the move never took place and therefore Pat had to make regular travels to play his bowls.
After Pat’s death his son Patrick and daughter Elaine decided to sponsor a trophy in honour of Pat and his wife Betty.
It was decided that Crediton Bowling Club and Topsham Bowling Club should play each other once a year on a home and away basis.
The trophy has been contested since 2018 with the combined scores added together to find the overall winner.
Topsham had won the competition for the first time in their history in 2021 so Crediton were delighted to regain the trophy this year by defeating their visitors by four shots in the first game and then by a further seven shots when played at Topsham giving victory overall by 11 shots.
The home and away fixtures are reversed each year so that the club hosting the second fixture provide an excellent tea.
Patrick and Elaine travel from France and Scotland to join the bowlers to enjoy a magnificent tea, and to present the winning captain with the trophy and an excellent bottle of Scotch Whisky, and also a bouquet of flowers to the losing Captain.
Throughout the season many friendlies are played but these two fixtures are regarded as highlights of the season.
