AT the end of each season finals are played to determine club champions in many disciplines on the Bowling Green in Crediton.
Handicap, two wood, three wood and then top of the tree Individual Champion.
The 2022 ladies champion was Liz Smerdon and as well as gaining the Club Trophy she is entitled to enter the Champion of Champions competition which starts locally and gradually broadens the geographical sphere the further you progress.
Liz triumphed 21-12 against Lyn Parker from Barnstaple United Services and will now play the winner of Emma Cooper or Alison Spreadborough.
Whoever comes out victorious in this match will then start playing other county champions with Cornwall being first up.
Quite a few rounds will then need to be played but eventually a National Champion will be crowned at the All England finals played at Leamington Spa.
This year’s club finals will be held on Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3, and the Men’s Championship will be contested between Richard Ellis and Neil Thomas.
The Men’s County Trophy team had a walkover against Heavitree and therefore have finished top of their group.
In the Foxlands Trophy there was a comfortable win against St Thomas with Topsham now waiting in the Devon semi-final.
There was just one friendly this week which resulted in a loss to Barnstaple United Services by 106 to 90, but there is a quick chance for revenge as the reverse fixture is being played at Newcombes on Saturday, July 8.
The Over 60 A team had a comfortable 8-0 victory over Tiverton West End A and there was a similar outcome for the Over 60 B team against Feniton Eagles.
The Over 60 C team had the harshest of results losing 8-0 but only going down by one shot and two shots against the league leaders.
In doing so they drop from fourth to sixth in the league.
