LADIES at Downes Crediton Golf Club played a nine-hole competition on Tuesday, June 13, which saw Jill Yates shoot a nett 37 to take home the nine-hole trophy.
Annet Coles scored a nett 37, but lost to a better back six holes to finish in second place.
The winner of the mid week stableford on Wednesday, June 14 was Harrison Tarrant who scored 36 points.
Downes Crediton Ladies Open took place on Thursday, June 15 and saw ladies from around the county compete.
The Mixed team of Lyn Parry and Ying Wong from Downes Crediton Golf Club and their partner from Stover Golf Club scored 77 points to take first place.
The team of Fran Shrubsole from Downes Crediton and Alison Hilton and Lynne Borton from Tiverton Golf Club scored 76 points to finish second.
The nine-hole Thursday stableford winner was Trevor Sanders who scored 19 points.
The winner of the stableford played on Saturday, June 17 was Nathan Hubble who scored 44 points to win the overall and Division Three prizes. Leigh Atkins finished second with 43 points.
In Division One Adam Hull scored 40 points to take first place.
Steven Govier finished second with a score of 40 points but lost to a better back nine.
In Division Two Bob Pym scored 40 points and Chris Drewe scored 38 points.
Club Championship 2023
The final round of the Club Championship took place and it was close to the wire.
This year the final round saw Downes ladies battle it out at the same time as the men.
In the Ladies Championship Tracey Chander shot a 79 in the first round and 81 in the second round for a total of 160 to take the Scratch Ladies Club Championship.
The winner of the Ladies Handicap Club Championship was Diane Botterill who scored a nett 78 in round one and 71 in the second round to take home the trophy.
Angela Storey scored a nett 71 to take the best 18-hole round.
In the Senior’s Club Championship Martin Howe scored a superb nett 61 (nine under) with a second round of nett 73 (three over) to claim this year’s championship.
Dave Woodstock scored a first round of gross 73 with a second round of 77 to win this year’s Scratch Championship.
In the Men’s Club Championship, after the first round the Handicap leader was Downes Crediton’s junior captain, Liam Whittleston who scored a nett 62 (eight under) to not only take the lead heading into the second round but he also won the Junior Club Championship. Following him into the second round a group of players on 67 (three under) were Chris Bruce, Neil Wilson, Martin Storey and Gary Price, who were all chasing Liam down, but after round two it was Christian Donovan who scored a first round of 69 (one under) nett and followed that up with a fantastic 65 (five under) nett to claim this year’s Buller Bowl (Handicap Club Championship).
In the Scratch it was Daniel Gott and Nick West who scored a gross 77 (seven over) to take a one shot lead going into the second round.
Rob Whittleston, Chris Toft, Gary Price, Martin Garnsey and Sam Hills were on 78 (eight over) so it was all to play for in the second round.
Daniel Gott stood strong shooting a second round 74 (four over) for a 151 to take the Club Championship.
