The Crediton Courier was first published in December 1974 as a monthly newspaper for the town and surrounding areas.
It has grown in stature since issue one. In the 1980s it became a fortnightly publication and then, encouraged by readers and advertisers, in May 2013 the Courier became a weekly publication.
The hyperlocal ethos of the newspaper has remained the same but developments in technology and changes in the way people demand their news means that we can now provide news around the clock through our website and social media platforms.
In addition, more than 50 people with little or no sight receive the Crediton Talking Newspaper, recorded by volunteers from the Lions Club of Crediton and other volunteers each week. We now distribute to an area covering a 20 mile radius of Crediton and have more than 10,000 readers*.
Our website and social media sites on Facebook and X have thousands of followers. We cover local news, events, letters, town council, features, motoring, police and fire reports and human interest stories from all walks of life.
The Crediton Courier is owned by Tindle Newspapers Ltd, an independent company and one of the largest family-owned newspaper groups in the land.
Ever since it was founded, the Crediton Courier has prided itself on its solid reporting of the news. In December 2024, the newspaper will celebrate an important anniversary as it marks 50 years of serving the people and communities of the area.
