A CREDITON boy has signed up to walk over hot coals to raise money for charity.
Floyd, 14, who was born in New Zealand, will take part in Crediton and District Lions Club’s “fire walk” to raise money for its charity fund.
Participants are busy gathering sponsors ahead of the event. It will take place in Crediton Town Square on Saturday, October 5 from 7pm to 9pm.
“Crediton Lions welcome the brave souls of Crediton to show up and have a good time while raising much-needed funds for the Lions service,” Lions Club member and event organiser Peter Bryan said.
“We need as many walkers as possible. Although significant funds will be raised for our charitable service in the area, we need more, even if you can’t raise the recommended amount towards the Lions charity you will still be able to walk.”
Company UK Firewalk is facilitating the fire walk and will provide training from 6pm on the day.
“They are one of the UK's leading fire walk companies and have led tens of thousands of people across fire and have a safety record which is outstanding,” Mr Bryan continued.
“Only one person has received more than a superficial blister and that was [its founder] Scott Bell, when he broke his first world record, and he then went on to break the Guinness World Record again without harm.”
Mr Bell added: “We are thrilled to bring this unique event to Crediton.
“Fire walking is a powerful experience that challenges perceptions and unlocks untapped potential.
“It's about pushing boundaries and discovering what's possible when we confront our fears head-on.”
Entry costs £25 to help Crediton Lions Club cover the cost of organising the event.
Certificates will be provided on completion of the walk. There will be a prize for the highest individual sponsorship achieved.
You must be aged 14 or over to participate.
