WEST Devon Mayor, Cllr Mike Davies, and a team made up of West Devon councillors and staff, have completed this year’s Dartmoor Autumn Challenge for charity.
The event, organised and run by the Rotary Club of Okehampton, is in its sixth year, and offers the chance for teams of three to eight walkers to tackle one of two routes across some of Dartmoor’s more rugged terrain.
The Mayor’s team opted for the 12-mile route, aiming to raise funds for North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team.
The Mayor said: “It’s been a fantastic day out and we’re really pleased with the amount that we’ve raised in sponsorship. The course was definitely challenging, but we were lucky enough to have Cllr Paul Vachon from Okehampton Town Council on our team, who was a leader with NDSART for many years.”
Cllr Kevin Ball, Ward Member for Okehampton North and a member of the Mayor’s Team, said: “This really is the best way to experience Dartmoor, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the team. I’m looking forward to next year already – we’ll definitely beat this year’s time.”
The team raised £300 in sponsorship for North Dartmoor Search and Rescue, and completed the course in just over 5.5 hours.
