THE story titled "Hamlets councillors unanimously oppose Threshers 60 homes plan" appeared in the Courier on Friday, September 8, issue 1154.
At a recent Crediton Hamlets Parish Council meeting, councillors unanimously objected to a plan to build 60 homes at Threshers on land at Pitt Hill.
Concerns were raised about increased traffic congestion, worsened air pollution problems in the town centre and flooding.
The planning application which has been submitted to Mid Devon District Council is for 60 dwellings of two or three storeys, with each property having two parking spaces.
At the meeting a spokesman for the applicant said that there would be less flooding at the site after the houses are built than there currently is.
Concerns about traffic congestion were discussed and it was said that the council was aware of a long history of vehicles getting stuck in the Westernlea, Threshers area, particularly the Stagecoach bus.
There were also concerns about traffic congestion in the area at peak school times and the close proximity of the proposed development to Chiddenbrook Surgery.
The Mid Devon District Council planning authority will consider the application at a future meeting.
Please let me know your thoughts on the proposed development.

What you told us ...
I do think it’s a bad place to build houses because of the flooding risk. I don’t like to see Crediton expanding so much. I think people do need houses, but that’s not the right place to build them!

I live in Tuckers Close and find the parking there is dreadful with the school and the doctors surgery. We find people park there and then catch the bus leaving their cars there all day. It’s a nice area for walking and will be spoilt if they build houses there. I can’t understand why they would want to build houses there. The traffic is dreadful already and will only get worse.

I used to live in Threshers and know they wanted to build there 40 years ago. The land up to the main road was earmarked for development. It’s taken them a long time to get round to it. When they built the other houses there it was an area that was going to get flooded and they had to put new drainage in, so I don’t know if it would still flood. A play area should have been put in too, but that still hasn’t been done. People can bang their heads against a brick wall but it will still go through.
