A SHOPKEEPER from Tedburn St Mary and a Crediton resident have warned people to be on their guard after they were both the victims of crime.

Between 1am and 6.45am on Tuesday, May 8, a silver Triumph Daytona 955L motorbike was stolen from outside a house in Landscore, Crediton.

Helen Law told the “Courier” that her husband Chris had owned the motorbike since 2013 and said it was attached by a thick cable lock, which was cut to remove the bike.

She said: “The bike is very distinctive and I am shocked that it was taken without us hearing as I had the windows open and I am a light sleeper.

“You don’t think it would happen to you and then it is a big shock when it does.

“It was only recently my husband advertised his bike on eBay so whether it happened because of that or was a passer-by I don’t know.

“I have told those at Treen Motors and the Union Road Velo-Moto and also put it on ‘Facebook’ to warn people to be extra secure with their bikes.”

Helen said that she hopes that by publicising the theft, the bike may be returned and it may act as a warning to others.

She said that the cover was left behind after the bike was taken.

She added: “Needless to say I feel frustrated and angry and so sorry for Chris, he has spent hours lovingly cleaning and maintaining the bike.”

MUPPETS

In an unrelated incident, the proprietor of Tedburn Village Stores described two youths who broke into the Stores at four minutes past one on Friday morning (May 4) as “Muppets”.

Clive Sadler, who runs Tedburn Village Stores with his wife Sylvie, said: “Two youths are clearly shown on the outside cameras turning up and looking at the job.

“They had a small hammer with them and then went obviously looking for something bigger.

They went into Fry’s Yard and found a hunk of concrete which they bumped on the glass door six times but the toughened glass didn’t break but the beads around it in the door did and they went everywhere when the door went in.

“A significant amount of damage was caused to the door.

“Within a few seconds they were inside and we have video images of them searching everywhere while the alarms sounded.

“They took a black till drawer which contained a few hundred pounds in money and stamps.

“They also brought in with them a builder’s bag from Fry’s Yard but didn’t take cigarettes or alcohol.

“It looked like they didn’t know what they were doing and it was all over within four minutes.

“I guess they were looking for a safe but we don’t have one but they took off afterwards on a 125 cc motorbike or similar but what property they hoped to take on a bike I don’t know, they were muppets!

“They didn’t have crash helmets so I guess they didn’t come from far away.

“I have put the video images on ‘Facebook’ in the hope that someone will recognise them.

“One has a Nike top on and the other has a strip across it.”

Mr Sadler added that the fact that the lads wore masks and gloves meant it was difficult for the police to have any clues to help find the culprits.

He added that he had now increased security at the stores.
