AN articulated lorry became so stuck in Church Street, Crediton on Thursday, October 19, that a specialist vehicle transporter had to be brought in to reverse the vehicle out of the narrow road.

There is a long history of lorries trying to use the narrow one-way road from Belle Parade to Union Road despite it only being wide enough for cars and vans.

Crediton Town Council has discussed the issue previously and has made its feelings known to Devon County Council.

It is understood that lorry drivers using cheaper purchased car SatNav systems, rather than lorry SatNav systems (which are more expensive), is behind some of the reason that lorries are being directed to use the road.

The lorry driver left the trailer part of the lorry in Church Street and drove the tractor part to the roundabout at Jockey Hill.

Traffic queued as far as East Street and up Jockey Hill while efforts were made to reverse the trailer of the lorry part way up Jockey Hill with the specialist vehicle transporter until the road was cleared.

Many vehicles in Blagdon used alternative routes rather than wait for the highway to be cleared.
