A PLANTING of a Ukrainian Kalina (viburnum opulus) took place in People's Park, Crediton on Wednesday, March 29.

It was organised by CISCO (Crediton International Social Cultural Organisation), supported by Crediton Town Council.

Kalina is a symbol of Ukrainian soul and resilience.

The bush, when fully grown, will bear beautiful white flowers followed by juicy red berries, much enjoyed by birds, but only edible for humans when cooked as jam.

The planting commemorates the strong bond between Ukrainian War refugees and the host community who kindly offered accommodation and support, becoming almost the second family for much disturbed Ukrainian people.

CISCO is currently looking for more sponsors as the War in Ukraine is still producing more and more unfortunate families fleeing for the safety of their children.

If you are willing to help with accommodation, please contact Natalia Letch from CISCO on 07455 824053.
