OPEN Farm Sunday is back for its 18th year and locally Quickes Traditional Ltd of Home Farm, Newton St Cyres will again be taking part!
Marking farming’s annual, national open day, this year’s event will take place on Sunday, June 9, where hundreds of farms across Britain open their gates to the public.
Organised by global sustainable farming charity LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), the event offers everyone a fantastic opportunity to see farming with nature at first-hand.
At Home Farm, those who book can enjoy a beautiful 3.5 mile guided stroll around the farm.
Mary Quicke, whose family has been farming the land in Newton St Cyres since 1540, will be leading the walk.
Throughout the walk Mary will be covering a plethora of topics; from the history of the farm and how it farms with nature to its dairy cows and woodland.
There will also be a tasting of Quicke’s multi-award-winning handcrafted cheeses at the end of the walk.
The walk starts and ends in Quicke’s Cheese Shop Car Park.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on leads.
Mary will be doing two walks, one from 10am to 11.30am and one from 12 noon to 1.30pm.
Please book your free place on Eventbrite: https://bit.ly/44XVWXk .
• Also taking part is West Middlewick Farm at Nomansland, Tiverton EX16 8NP.
On Sunday, June 9, from 10am to 3pm.
You can meet the animals, enjoy farm tours, including the parlour, chat to the farmer, vet and agronomist, plant seeds, enjoy willow crafts, pottery painting and a nature walk to the river with a local wildlife expert.
There will be a treasure hunt, food and drink tasters in the farm shop, cream teas and a barbecue.
It is a free day out for all.
Open Farm Sunday is a great family day out, whether you are a first-time or seasoned visitor. Each event is unique, as each farm is different and every farmer too, but what they all share is a passion for farming and telling their story, amazing expertise, and a commitment to farming with nature as “Guardians of the Earth”.
