IT was a blustery day for a tree planting ceremony at People’s Park in Crediton on Monday, March 13, as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a nationwide tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Present at the tree planting were assistant Clerk of Crediton Town Council, Emma Anderson, members of Crediton Town Council, Cllr Guy Cochran and Cllr Dee Ross (also representing Sustainable Crediton) and Julian Hooper of Hooper Services, who supplied the tree.
The tree, a Liquidambar (L styraciflua), is a deciduous tree which grows to 20 metres tall and is broadly conical in outline, with rather glossy, maple-like, five to seven-lobed leaves, which turn to shades of orange, crimson and purple in the autumn.
The tree will be added to The Queen’s Green Canopy map online, where you can explore all the other trees planted across the UK as part of the initiative.
Assistant Clerk, Emma Anderson said: “It’s wonderful for Crediton Town Council to commemorate the 2022 Platinum Jubilee as a lasting memory of Her Majesty’s great service.”
