QUITE a crowd gathered by 11am on Saturday, November 11 around the Crediton Town and Hamlets War Memorial on Union Road on a vaguely sunny morning.

Rev Preb Matthew Tregenza led prayers, the vice chairman of Mid Devon District Council, Cllr Gwen DuChesne laid a wreath after which a green wreath with white poppies was laid on behalf of Exeter Quakers, joining the handmade wreath from Pippins Pre-School and three other personal tributes left as well as one from the Ladies Golden Circle.

It was a shame hardly any traffic stopped, although three or four vehicles parked up opposite the War Memorial, others just went on past.   Maroons were let off to signal the start and end of the period of silence and reflection.
