AN extra celebration of this year’s Coronation is a kneeler created by a local woman and given to Tedburn St Mary Parish Church.
It took Dot Woolland nearly four months to sew the colourful tapestry. She bought the complete kit with all the wools from ecclesiastical manufacturers and suppliers Hayes and Finch of Liverpool.
Although initially Dot paid for the kit, various people contributed to pay her back the £155 including the Thursday coffee mornings, Tedburn Stores which also had a donations box, the monthly Farmers’ Market as well as several individual contributions.
On the four sides of the kneeler are the rose, thistle, leek and shamrock.
Dot has designed several other kneelers for Hittisleigh Parish Church featuring people’s houses, another at Tedburn for the late Queen and one at Yeoford Holy Trinity Church.
Nor was this one the most complicated Dot has done. She said she enjoys doing them and is also an excellent wood carver.
