THE stage and seating for performances of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night are being set up in Crediton Town Square.

Half of the tickets have already been sold for the play, which will be performed by more than 30 local actors over four nights from Wednesday, July 3 to Saturday, July 6, starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 10.30pm.

It will feature “stewards” on stage who will help the audience understand the often-confusing story of Twelfth Night in modern English.

“The whole point is to encourage people to come along who'd never think in a month of Sundays of going to a show like this,” producer and actor Kate Lock told the Courier

The stage will have seating on either side of it facing each other in a “traverse” configuration.

County Scaffolders, formerly Isca of Crediton, which has prepared all previous Shakespeare in the Square shows in Crediton, is setting up the 200-seat structure.

The play is being staged in memory of Peter Hamilton, founding director of Crediton Arts Centre, and Rod Brookes-Hocking, former producer of Shakespeare in the Square. Both died within weeks of each other two years ago.

You can buy tickets, which cost £12 for adults, £5 for concessions and £30 for a family of two adults and two children, online here: https://www.trybooking.com/uk/events/landing/57326
