JOINT Service. Members of St Andrew's Church, Hittisleigh, joined the congregation at St Michael's Church, Spreyton, for the regular fourth Sunday joint service for both parishes.
The service was conducted by John Williams the local LWL. The readings were by Dr K and Gill Whitaker, the intercessional prayers were led by Alethea Kennerley and Shirley Gillard was organist.
Tony and Judith Talbot and members of St Michael's Church provided refreshments.
For CHICKS. For the past few years the Tom Cobley Tavern has made headline news for the many people who enjoy regular meals there and for the awards gained by the inn from CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale). The inn offers a choice of more than 20 ales.
Now the landlord, Roger Cudlip, is in the news for a different reason. Some of the "locals" are members of Cheriton and Tedburn Young Farmers' Club and make regular visits to the Tom Cobley.
The youngsters are trying to raise £1,000 for CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids). To help raise funds Roger, who has had a moustache from the age of 18, will have it removed when that amount has been raised.
Roger, who always likes to support young people, thought this was a worthy cause and admired the work of the youngsters.
On the night he announced his intention to customers £250 was raised. During that evening a well attended quiz was organised by Annie Lott and Liam with her father, Clive, as the question master. Jane Lott was in charge of the raffle.
The winners were Jammy Dodgers (a local family team of Roy, Ruth, Katy and Mark Endacott), Roy being the chief executive of CHICKS. Runners-up were Ian, Heather, Becky and Andrew or the Cramphay Four.
Roger and Carol supplied a meal and salad at the end of the evening.
Flower Show. Most of the regular spring/summer events have now taken place - the Fayre, Spree and Barn Dance and now it is the turn of the annual Flower Show.
