A SINGLE bus journey will cost just £1 in Devon and Torbay on “Super Saturdays” this month.
The offer will be available on Saturday, January 11, Saturday, January 18 and Saturday, January 25.
The initiative is designed to encourage more people to use buses “to explore their local area, visit family and friends and enjoy the stunning coast and countryside across Devon”.
Journeys which start outside of Devon and Torbay, including those in Plymouth, are not included.
Funding for the Super Saturdays initiative comes from Devon County Council and Torbay Council.
“We are delighted to be able to offer this discount to Devon and Torbay residents thanks to our partnership with Devon County Council and Torbay Council,” Stagecoach South West Managing Director Peter Knight said.
“January can typically be a quiet month for people, so we hope by providing this discount it enables people to explore new places and try new things.”
Devon County Council Deputy Leader Cllr Andrea Davis said: “The cost-of-living crisis continues to be an issue so we're hoping that this initiative provides a little bit of help to bus passengers in Devon and Torbay at the start of the year.”
Cllr Adam Billings of Torbay Council added: “The Super Saturdays initiative is a great opportunity to get around for less.
“Whether visiting family, one of our great towns or natural spaces, £1 single fares provide a simple and affordable travel option.”
The routes included in the offer cover a wide area of Devon and detailed information about the specific routes and timetables can be found by visiting the Travel Devon website at devon.cc/supersaturdays.
Single bus fares have also been capped at £3 on all other days from January 1 as part of the national bus fare cap scheme.
