CREDITON Town Council and Crediton Heart Project have issued a joint statement concerning the early removal of the flags which have adorned shop and business fronts in Crediton High Street and other areas of the town during recent weeks.

The flags were taken down by volunteers from the Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface on Monday, June 17, months earlier than planned.

The statement reads: “We know how disappointed businesses, residents and visitors will be to see the early end of Crediton’s Flag Festival.

“Following the failing of a bracket, a joint decision between Crediton Town Council and Crediton Heart Project was made to take the flags down following professional advice.

“Both Crediton Town Council and Crediton Heart Project are committed to the continuation of both provision of Christmas lights and future Flag Festivals, but the safety of the public is of upmost importance.

“Each bracket will be assessed, with proposals being considered by Crediton Town Council in the near future.
