SANDFORD has a new parish councillor.

Seb Pope was chosen to fill a vacant seat on Sandford Parish Council when the public went to the polls on Thursday, September 5.

He secured 150 votes, 59 per cent of the total ballots cast, and his only rival Elizabeth Dalton 104 votes, 41 per cent of the total.

Turnout in the election was 24.2 per cent from an electorate of 1,048.

Separately, three people have been automatically appointed to Down St Mary Parish Council. They are Andrew Baker, June Bennett and Jacky Towells.

Five seats were available, but too few people stood for an election to be triggered – or even to fill all the vacancies.
