THREE creative events are coming up at Crediton Library from August to October this year.
The “Get Creating” season will feature workshops on nature-themed art, digital media and visual storytelling.
The first event, “Nature Doodles Workshop”, will take place on Friday, August 2 from 11am to 3pm.
Split into two 90-minute sessions, it costs £2 to take part and is suitable for families.
Participants will use a variety of seed pods, sticks, leaves and cones to create temporary artworks.
“Without lifting a pencil, or pen, we doodle individually, before creating a bigger, collaborative piece, seeing the magic that can happen when we all work together,” a spokesperson said.
The digital media workshop will take place on Friday, August 23 from 2pm to 3.30pm.
It costs £3 to take part and booking is essential.
Participants can explore filmmaking, music videos and photography with organisation Sound Communities, which works with young people.
The final event will be a visual storytelling workshop entitled “Boxes of Delight and Scrolls of Wonder”.
It will take place from 2pm to 7pm on Tuesday, October 29. It costs £2 to take part and booking is essential.
Artists Sara Hurley and Wendy Dacre will lead the workshop.
Sara is a kamishibai storyteller, a Japanese art form using picture cards. Wendy is a crankie-maker (rolling scroll story) and singer.
At 2.30pm on the day, there will be a chance for participants to make a mini crankie by converting a small box and creating a picture scroll inspired by an animal journey.
At 6pm, Wendy and Sara will perform a medley of interactive crankie and kamishibai stories and songs.
“We hope people will bring their friends and families,” Creative Communities Producer Rae Hoole of Libraries Unlimited, which runs the public library service in Devon and Torbay, said.
"Who knows, they might discover talents that they never knew about and pick up some new skills along the way!”
