NFU Mutual Agents and their staff at the Crediton agency recently nominated local charity Age Concern Crediton to receive a donation of more than £6,500 from NFU Mutual’s national £1.92million “Agency Giving Fund”.

The leading rural insurer launched this fund, now in its fifth year, to help local frontline charities across the country.

The Agency Giving Fund forms part of NFU Mutual’s £3.25m funding pledge for both local and national charities in 2024, to assist with the ongoing recovery from the pandemic and to help tackle the impact of the rising cost of living.

To ensure these donations reach all corners of the UK and are directed to where they’re needed most, all NFU Mutual Agencies, with more than 280 offices nationwide, have been given the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of the fund.

The money will help the charity extend their reach and help make their services more diverse to ensure they tackle the problem of isolation and loneliness within the community.

Chelsea Yelland, Operations Manager at Age Concern Crediton, said: "We are so grateful to the Crediton Agency of NFU Mutual for nominating our charity to receive a donation from the NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund.

“This incredibly generous donation will assist us to provide relevant services to help older people live well in Crediton and surrounding areas.

“It will make a real impact in supporting the charity’s vital work with older people in the area. It comes at a time when budgets are becoming tighter and services are more in demand than ever before, with the cost-of-living crisis continuing to affect the rural community in Mid Devon.

“We really value the support the NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund has given us, and the funding will be targeted for maximum impact.”

Chelsea added: “Whilst we continue to deliver our Community Club on Wednesday and Fridays from 10am to 2.30pm we also hold a coffee morning, Memory Café, art class and a new lunch club. We are continually looking at new ways to reach and support individuals that need us.

“Our Home Support and Befriending service is proving ever popular, it allows us to reach and support the wider community including individuals who might not necessarily have access to their local community.

“The type of things we offer in this service are help with shopping, cleaning, enabling and providing company. We are hoping that we can reach to new people whilst continuing to help those most in need."
