Ross Hext, from Cheriton Fitzpaine, raised £2,927 through sponsorship for two local charities, by completing a 150 mile charity tractor run starting from the Tesco, Wellparks store car park in Crediton.
Ross drove a restored Fordson Major tractor down to St Columb in Cornwall, to raise money for his two chosen charities.
A presentation was held at the store where Ross presented a cheque for £1,000 to Sharon Ewart and Wendy Lankester of Hospiscare and a cheque for £1,927 to Cynthia Hopkins of MND (the Motor Neurone Disease Association).
Sharon said: “Without the efforts of supporters like Ross, Hospiscare would struggle to provide specialist palliative care to our patients and support to their loved ones.
“The money that Ross has raised will provide approximately 35 hours of community nursing care to families within the local area, to which we are extremely thankful.”
Cynthia added: “MND is a fatal disease of the nervous system.
“People with MND live their lives totally dependent on others for their most basic needs. The MND Association provides care and support to people with the disease to enable them to live their lives to the full.
“This includes loaning essential equipment, training association visitors, running a national helpline, and funding research.
“This support will help us to fund a communication aid that will enhance the quality of life for someone locally dealing with this dreadful condition.”
Andrew Drayton, Community Champion at the Tesco, store said: “We are more than happy to help Ross. It’s a truly fantastic amount to raise for two local worthy causes.”
Ross completed the tractor run in memory of his late wife and is hoping to do another fundraising event in the future.
