AS part of National Lorry Week, the North Devon sub region of the Road Haulage Association presented Devon Air Ambulance’s fundraising manager Tracey Owen with a cheque for £1,500, the proceeds from its Annual Dinner and Dance.

The cheque handover took place on September 21 at Exeter Services where Gregory Distribution Limited (GDL) was displaying a 44 feet trailer especially liveried with Devon Air Ambulance’s night flying campaign message – "Help us make night time flight time".

The Road Haulage Association’s National Lorry Week is a UK-wide awareness campaign aimed at demonstrating to the public the vital role that lorry and road freight play in moving the economy and in daily life. North Devon based transport businesses supporting the event included South Molton’s M. Way and Sons Transport, Dauncey Haulage from Bideford and Gregory Distribution Limited.

Gregory Distribution also used the vehicle as part of an ongoing campaign to attract new and younger recruits to the transport sector.

Paul Willis, Gregory’s Head of Business Support and Compliance and Chairman of the North Devon Road Haulage Association, said: “As well as the principle aim of raising the awareness of the essential role of the road transport industry, we are using the event to introduce the next generation of young people to the transport industry and demonstrate what a responsible, challenging, professional and rewarding career it can provide.”

Paul Willis was supported by Mervyn Way of M. Way and Sons Transport who is Vice President of the North Devon Sub Region RHA. Also in attendance was Nick Way and Bill Dauncey of the RHA, Kevin Hould, Tim Bennet and Tony Thompson of Gregory Distribution’s driver training team.
