Crediton Rector Rev Matthew Tregenza said: “Let us remember before God, and commend to his sure keeping, those who have died for their country in war.”

District council Vice Chair Cllr Gordon Czapiewski also recited lines from Laurence Binyon’s poem For the Fallen.

He said: “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

“Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

“We will remember them.”
