I HAVE lived in three Devon villages over the last 70 years but until last Saturday I had not attended a wassailing event.

I congratulate the village of Sandford, not only for keeping this historic seasonal event alive in Mid Devon, but for providing such an enjoyable evening of music, Morris dancing, acting, singing and audience participation for adults and children alike.

As a visitor from Thorverton I was made most welcome and invited to participate in the delicious apple cake, procession and chanting to keep the evil spirits away from its apple trees for another year.

Well done Sandford!

Thank you.
