STUDENTS and staff at Crediton’s Queen Elizabeth’s School celebrated World Book Day late this year because of the snow and when it took place, it took the form of an “Alice in Wonderland” Mad Hatter’s tea party.
On Thursday, March 15, tables groaned with party food…sausage rolls, sandwiches, cakes, ice cream and jelly…all generously donated by students and staff.
Thanks were extended to parents for their generosity, and not a crumb was left!
QE asked for Mad Hats and they got Mad Hats.
Students showed considerable flair and creativity in their creations…from Cheshire Cats to Tea Parties on your head.
The winner was Ben Tate and runners-up were Kaia Darvill, Petra May and Charlotte Weir.
In addition, the Crediton Community Bookshop took along a choice selection of books for students to browse and buy.
The day started with an assembly celebrating the Nonsense poems of Lewis Carroll…performed by some of the Sixth Form Stars of “Titanic”.
Robert Logan, Librarian at QE, said: “It just remains for me to thank all the people who made the day such a success…Mrs Karkeek, Mr Bain, Mr Crooks, Mrs Jarvis and Miss Wood… all the Staff at Barnfield… our fabulous Sixth Formers and of course all our students, without whose support would not make any of these events possible.”
