SAINT Mary’s Church at Morchard Bishop has stood on the top of the hill in the village since the 14th Century but sadly 600 years of Devon rain and weather has taken its toll and the structure of the church is now “at risk”.
The Parochial Church Council and local residents have now set up St Mary’s At The Community’s Heart (SMATCH), which has begun fundraising for the expected £250,000 costs of repairs to the building, re-hanging of the church bells, installing a toilet and small kitchen area and enabling more community use and the installation of an under-gallery and exhibition space.
A Community Survey has been started and it is hoped that more people will get behind the appeal by giving donations or helping fundraise.
Grants are to be applied for and donations would be welcomed. If you can help, please email Wendy Vere at: [email protected] .
